Water pump noise...

I seem to be asking a lot of questions lately - here's another one!!

When I start my bike (Mastiff) form cold, I can hear what sounds like a 'buzz' - like something vibrating. It lasts for a minute or so and then disapears.
Today I noticed it seems to be coming from the water pump (or that area). Could it be cavitation caused by an air lock in the cooling system? I replaced all the fluid a couple of weeks ago, and wondered if some air may be trapped somewhere.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Is it likely to be air in the coolant, or is it something more sinister? How can I get any remaining air out of the cooling system?

I think, it's not a problem. My Baghira makes the same noises (since the first day). And a Skorpion I owned had it too, if it was cold.

I heard the noises also at different MZ-motorcycles of my friends. It's normal, don't be worry.

You can press a bit at the radiator hose, but usually there is no air inside after a while.

most water pumps are bronze bushings for the bearings
look close at bike motor there is probely a drain hole some where on the
lower side of the water pump find it and watch for water there

check it regularly if no water present don't worry about it

some one with that motor may be able to tell you where the drip hole is located on the 660 motor if there is one

if it is not making funny noises it's probely not running :-D

My baggie started doin the same recently i think. Its like a clicking?- I put it down to the decompressor?

My bike seems to have stopped making this buzzing noise now. I guess it may have been a bit of air trapped after I changed the coolant.

Cold start BUZZ

For peace of mind, I'd appreciate any additioal info on the 660 motor "Buzz" that several others seem to experience. I'm more inclined to believe it's related to oil pressure or starter clutch.
Does it get better or worse over time?
It's pretty loud on those really cold mornings !!

I heard and noticed the same buzz over the last few days myself from my 04 BP. I squeezed the radiator hose down there after startup and it does not feel stiff or filled. I thought I might be low on radiator fluid. I removed the cap and the fluid was down to the top of the fins. I added some anti freeze. I squeezed the hose while adding fluid and it changed the level in the radiator, seeming to burp out some air. And the next stop light on the drive it was puking it out though one of the cracked hoses on the top of the radiator. does pressurized flow go between the radiators two through the smaller diameter top crossover hose? OR can I replace the cracked tubing with silicon tubing that I have?

Does anyone know of a good hose supplier that I can order from over the internet in the US. As the need arises, Id like to order some lengths of some better tubing and hoses. How about braided hose components to replace the existing with stainless braided? Thanks

It seems that all the un reinforced vent tubing MuZ uses is garbage. I've had to replace or repair crankcase breathers, radiator overflow and coolant tank vent tubes. A good place to start is any local NAPA auto parts shop, Gates brand reinforced fuel or coolant hose, match to size. These aren't as flexible (thicker wall) as the original stuff, but for most it's OK. They sometimes stock Tygon as well (low pressure only) . The silicone tube is ok for any non pressurized VENT application, but stick to fuel or heater hose for pressure side.
For the braded lines, I assume you mean oil supply and return. could be replaced with hydraulic lines on your original fittings. Not as pretty as Aeroquip, but a lot easier on the wallet. Some automotive speed shops stock the stainless braided tubing by the foot, be aware that it is not as easy to work with.

The connecting hose between the top of my rads perished too. I have replaced it with some non-reinforced silicone hose, as the original hose was not reinforced. This was only intended as a temporary measure, but it's still going strong after 4 months.

When I was looking for a replacement hose, I was told NOT to use rubber fuel hose as it was not suitable for use with coolant running through it...

YIKES ! I'll have to check on that, allthough the "fuel" line I've used is a general purpose 1-ply reinforced rubber that I believe is the same exact material as heater & radiator hose.

Yeah, I was a bit baffled as to why rubber fuel hose was any different to rubber coolant hose...
I just thought I'd better do as I was told!
