My front brake caliper got stuck in the closed position on the freeway recently. By the time I got it pulled over, I had brake fluid boiling out.
The pads were cooked flat and it appeared the fluid was coming out of a rupture in the line. I got new EBC pads and a new Galfer line hooked up, filled up with new fluid and the leaking started again.
So I took the caliper apart and found that one of the pistons is damaged. It appears it got so hot that it started to burn. It has a rough, scorched looking area along the rim that contacts the pad backing.
So I am looking at a caliper rebuild. I will need pistons and seals. I tried to search for "Grimeca", etc., but didn't have any luck here or on Google.
Anybody have any sourcing advice?. I got the new pads and line through Cyclebrakes.com, and they were very helpful. I may just go that route again, or contact SFMoto if none of you have any better sourcing info. Last resort will be to talk to an Aprilia dealer re the old Pegaso brakes.
Thanks,
RR
